Default possible clutch engagement issue.

Hey all,

Before I begin, I should say that I searched in several diy clutch adjustment topics before posting this.

Anyway, I finished up my clutch swap last night (CM fx100 with OEM bearings and resurfaced AP1 flywheel) and it feels awesome! However, there's just one issue, and that's the engagement point in the pedal.

At first, it wouldn't go into gear at all, so I bled the slave and screwed the pushrod in all the way. The car was then able to drive fine. As I tried rotating the rod out, the engagement point got lower and lower. So I spun it back in all the way.

With that said, i can still feel the clutch begin to engage when I let the clutch out about 1.5-2ish inches (estimation here).

The car feels great other than that. I did notice that it clipped a cog when downshifting into 2nd at about 4k rpm. It didn't grind, but you could feel interference.

Any ideas guys? I bled the clutch but I think I may need to do more. However, engagement and pedal feel are consistent.

Thanks!

Any ideas guys? Could it just be a characteristic of the new clutch? It doesn't start to roll forward when i put it into gear, so i know it's disengaging fully.

I was thinking, maybe i should adjust the bolt on the other side that dictates the pedal length, and shorten it?

You should only adjust the clutch pedal so you have no more than 3/4" of free play, don't worry too much about where in the pedal travel you have clutch engagement, as long as you can fully disengage the clutch when you press it(ie it's not grinding when you select a gear), and rev to redline and shift without it slipping(because of a weakened pressure plate) you should be fine.

I see, thanks. I think I found the actual issue. I went and did a pull to see if I could shift into 2nd at high rpm, and I could, but the shifter rotated pretty far in my hand. Like where third would be.

I got under the car and saw the drive shaft and trans mounts were able to be tightened a bit. I did so and that fixed some issues, but the shifter still moves. I'm thinking the bolts for the motor mounts might be loose. Would that be a symptom?

Shifter shakes no matter what you do, is it loose in neutral?

No, the shifter itself is nice and tight like normal. But the whole assembly shifted to the right when I was doing a full throttle pull in first. I didn't tighten down the engine mounts when doing the clutch (one of my friends did) so i'm gonna get under the car tonight and see if they needs to be torqued down.

I also noticed that the shifter moved a bit more than normal when even revving it in neutral, and the engine shifted more than normal as well. Something is definitely loose somewhere.

The issue has been fixed. The nuts holding the engine mounts to the subframe were loose.

Lesson: too many people working on a car at once can do more harm than good.
