Bill, I looked through the manual(for pulling tranny). It has you disconnect the steering?!

Sounds like I could have the engine out faster if I pulled the trans first.
What time do you expect to arrive?

Skip,

I've got a 3/4" drive ratchet you can borrow. It is only a Craftsman, but at least it wouldn't matter if it broke. It might be hefty enough to do the job, just stick a pipe on it if you need more leverage. I've also got a 1/2" drive breaker bar if you want to give another one a shot (craftsman as well unfortunately)

John
Thanks for the offer, John. I use/buy Craftsman as well. I had to return a hand tool once before... no questions asked.

That's only because you lower the engine cradle. If you're lifting the engine out, I think the cradle can stay put.

Yup....steering is easily disconnected.

1 matchmark
2 position the shaft for easy access to the bolts, then loosen the upper and remove the lower
3 most important....before sliding the coupler upwards, remove the ignition key and lock the steering. If the steering wheel is allowed to float one turn before re-connecting the steering shaft, you'll break the clockspring (cable reel)

I guess I feel it's faster as I've pulled the trans over 15 times

Skip if I was closer I would have came right over with some tools

Chris....you think any time is being saved by doing it in one shot?
With the Cylinder head installed, It's impossible to remove the motor/trans combo from the top. If the head was allready off, I'd try pulling both assembled, because you won't have to worry with the head hitting the cowl.

If you have a 4 post lift, it's faster to drop the motor and trans still attached to the subframe.

On jackstands, yank the trans 1st, then the motor.
