Questions about my tranny rebuild
I'm going to be rebuilding my tranny in the next week, and ordering parts here on Wednesday. I have a few questions before I start, and wondering if you guys could help me out
1. Can the 5/6 gear be replaced or just replace the secondary shaft will that change the overall ratio to have a better crusing speed for 6th gear?
2. Are the synchros on the AP2 carbon? Can they ALL be replaced into the AP1 tranny? Or can only certain gears have the AP2 synchros, or none of them?
3. Are there any other tricks or ideas that come to mind to having a stronger tranny, using OEM parts or having them cryo-treated?
Again, if I can get pointed in the right direction that would be great, and thank you all for your input. Thanks everyone.

uhm, check at honda with some of the techs to confirm, as far as i know none of the ap2 stuff will go into the ap1 trans. all the gears are a few mm wider. thats what my source says.
id be willing to bet, with some cash, brains and a mic, you could check the shafts and see what the dimensions are. you may be able to add some of the ap2 stuff into the gearbox, but it may take some machine shop work. i have many gearbox builder friends, and the stuff they pull off amazes me. few thou milled off here and there, makes all kinds of stuff fit.

The syncros are carbon coated. If you buy new syncros from Honda for AP1, they are also now carbon coated. Problem is that they only sell them as a set with all the gears and shaft.
