if its as simple as an oil cap, i will be very happy... the thought of taking apart my interior for an aloof rattle is not up there with things to do on my day off! (unless im installing new speakers, which my bank account won't allow)

well thanks to everyone! i found the rattle.....can anyone guess what it was??

now i have an extra oil cap!!

i jacked the car up and ran my modded coat hanger and heard it, and then got my hand inbetween the firewall and tranny and got it out!

its amazing, it is so much quieter, this and my liberal application of quiet car and the s2k is pretty quiet!

thanks again

This is now the 3rd thread that I've read where the rattle has been caused by the oil cap

I have a slightly annoying buzz/rattle coming from a mysterious area that sounds like it's under/in the dash... I'm going to check my car out now... we may have a 4th very soon.

Edit: couldn't find anything, but I don't have any spare wire with me at work. So I'll check again when I get a chance.

that explains why there was a non-oem oil cap when you first got the car.

I jacked the left front of the car and got underneith... at first i tried doing it from above the motor, but it was hard to keep it going straight...

So i got under the left wheel, and looked up from below where the clutch and brake lines are. I wormed my wire inbetween the top of the transmission case... it was much easier to do it this way... i soon heard the tell tale sound of plastic hitting metal and just got my hand up in there...

it was tough but i eventually got it out! Hope you work out the noise! good luck

Crazy... when you mentioned the non OEM cap figured you may indeed have the oil cap left by the previous owner. How can so many people do that, they must always leave the cap off the tooth paste and the seat up on the toilet too...

i agree, its pretty sad... but very easy to do when you want to get back in the car and drive it!! i wonder if the rattle is what drove him to sell it?
