Yes, both. Weight of the oil is not that much, but a few lbs is a few pounds. Next is the Hazmat of shipping oil. It is also messy.

Personally I would open the diff, clean and inspect it before I installed it in my car.

When I ship a built diff, I crate it in a 20lb crate. Now that can be dropped a long way.
