Reverse Gear, hard to get into?
My mechanic just helped me replace my old tranny with this rebuild one and also putted in a new clutch(ACT HDSS)+slave+master cyclinder.
in my first tranny it was SUPER hard to get into first gear and a little into reverse but i thought it was because thedude before me dont know how to shift.
the newer tranny right now is easier to get into first but reverse feels kinda the same.
its hard to get into reverse? a common thing for s2000??
thx

Did you replace the shifer itself too?
(I guess so because that is all part of the transmission.. right?)
How did the plastic bushings on your "new" shifter look?
Anyway.. no problems here.
It is a bit "notchy" when cold, but once warm => no problem.
What transmission oil do you use?

It depends on how you are shifting into reverse (or 1st for that matter). Are you stopping the tranny from spinning first by throwing it into another forward gear, THEN going into 1st or reverse. If you are in neutral, clutch out, the engine is spinning the tranny as high as over 2000 rpm (depending upon how cold it is out). If you just shove the clutch in and immediately try for 1st or reverse, you will meet with varying degrees of difficulty. This is not just an S2000 trait. It is common with many manual transmissions.

Not positive on the S since I thankfully haven't had one apart but on most transmissions there is no synchro on Reverse. In Neutral with the clutch engaged the input shaft is actually spinning in there and as Xviper suggested picking a forward gear uses that gear's synchro to match the input shaft speed to the output shaft speed which in this case is zero. (We are all selecting Reverse while stopped right!) This then allows a smooth zero RPM selection of Reverse. On my car I just wait a second before engaging reverse and there are no problems but your case may be different.
on mine reverse is sometimes hard to go in, it feels like it goes in half way but its just jammed and wont go in all the way. It does this probably 50% of the time. Sometimes i have to put in in first and roll forward then try again if it wont go into reverse after a couple trys.
