Default Rough idle

Hi y'all!

I'm new to the S2000 world. I recently sold my 2000 ITR in exchange for my 2001 Berlina Black S2000. I love her so far, and this car is exactly what I've been looking for.

I have a little/minor issue (I hope) which I was hoping I could get figured out with some help..........

Basically, ever since I got the car I noticed AT TIMES as the RPM's drop down to idle (at a stop light or in stop-n-go traffic, for instance) the RPM's will drop too low. Perhaps to around 500 or so, and then it will instantly shoot back up to 800-1000 and stay there like it normally should. When it does this, the engine gives a little shake as though it's going to stall. It is reproducible if i gently tap the throttle. Again, it only does it every so often, and i think it's worse when cold. Th car runs grat otherwise.

I called a buddy of mine who has some experience with Honda's and he thinks it may be the Idle Air Control valve periodically getting stuck not let air pass through initially and then opening up to let the idle shoot up to normal.

What do you guys think???

I greatly appreciate any help in advance.

BTW, my S is completely stock and has always been.

Hey there,

I had (and have) the exact same issue even after I changed the IACV (for an unrelated problem). I too thought it was a sticky IACV, but in my case it wasn't. Other posts here in the past have pegged the MAP sensor as the cause of this rough, dropping idle. Some posters have had success "whacking" the MAP to get this stop, but that hasn't worked for me. Good luck.

Check out your throttle plate/butterfly. Cleaning the throttle plate with some carb cleaner helped in my case.

Yes and don't rev it when it starts to drop. Let the ECU figure it out, many S2000s have this issue.

so, is this a common problem on the S2000 solved by cleaning the TB?

or is it a common problem which has not been solved yet?
