Always use a premium grade detergent oil displaying the API Certification Seal.

It is highly recommended that you use Honda motor oil in your vehicle for as long as you own it.
If the API rating is SL or higher, it dun't matter what brand it is. I believe SM is the highest rating.

hahaha..thanks for confirming.

I'll put another vote for the manual. I was planning to switch to Mobil 1 before 10k miles since Mobil claims you can do it at any time without any ill effects. But if Honda says no, then no it is.
once you hit 7500 miles you should be ok. mobil 1 is great, and you can easily go 7000+ miles between oil changes.

That's pretty much it. Sounds pretty cut and dry to me.

I don't see any references to what the Honda engineers? were concerned about in the early days, even five years after thay published this often posted technical bulletin article.

IMO, if your still sweating about going to synthetic oil before 10K miles just in case your engine isn't broken in yet, you're going to have to leave the OEM fill in there until 10K. Switching to today's conventional oil is virtually the same as going to synthetic wrt lubrication engine wear properties. You just gain a longer OCI with synthetic oil.
You're right, it's very cut and dry. You're missing the key point here.

pg 100\ Break-in period- Do not change the oil until the scheduled maintenance period.
Honda expects you will be leaving the factory fill in til 7500 miles. And even if you change it sooner, the memo states to use a conventional oil til 7500 miles.

I'm still unsure how this can even be a "debate". It's not like this is anything new. This is well known and documented information. The last Gen Prelude had FRM cylinder walls like our car does. Honda released a full out TSB on that car, stating not to use synthetic til 7500 miles for the exact same reasons here.

Dont use synthetic til 7500 miles. It's not that difficult people. If you still don't get it even after all of the information posted on this website, and all the information from Honda, then Soichiro Honda himself couldnt' tell you any better, and you don't need any more help from us and the UTH forum. I'm done with this thread.
