Default S2000 OEM differential failures

If you've had OEM diff failure and are participating in this poll, please expound upon your poll selection with brand, grade (75W-90, SAE 90, 75W-110, SAE 110 etc.), and how long it was in use in the comments section. Also, let us know your driving style and what you were doing when it failed. If you have any UOA's, please let us see them too. If you select other, please let us know what brand it was.

Thank you for your time and consideration by participating in this poll.

I don't think many failures are related to lubrication. The diff design/construction is simply not up to high torque impacts. The failure in my car happened with a hard shift from first to second gear, something I have done thousands of times in other cars but is simply not recommended in this one.

That's OK. Please let us know what you were using at the time of the hard shift though. Thanks.

Lubrication plays a role in transferring torque.

I wonder if Billman tracks this kind of thing. It seems to me operator input would have the real cause.

180,000mi or so on an AP1 diff that had LE for the first half of its life then Amsoil severe gear 75-140. The first owner was an enthusiast and drove it hard but was conscious of the diff issues and frequent oil changes. I drove it like it was meant to be but never launched it or tried to bark 1-2 before it finally let go.
<--- this clutch didn't go in until after the failure

It appears that the poll is working. Please tell us the grade of oil used in the reply section. Thank you.
