Default Snapped Valve Cover Bolt... Help

Hey guys. So I was putting my Valve cover back on and I didn't have a torque wrench that went down to 8.7lbs like the manual suggest. But anyway I was torquing it down and boom the bolt snapped. I know the easiest solution would be to take the valve cover off and and replace the one bolt. But unfortunately I would have to have another bolt shipped to me and I don't feel like waiting. So I'm planning on trying to trying to remove the snapped bolt with some dental tools. If I succeed in removing it, I'm planning on heading down to Lowes/Home Depot and going to try to find 5 new bolts to replace them all. Does this sound like a sound idea? Any inputs are appreciated, but please remember I live in Alaska and parts are not as available. Plus I've had in the vehicle out of commission for the past three months and would like to start driving as soon as I can and get her winter prepped.

Thanks

Something like these motorcycle case flange bolts? Think you need 6x12 bolts. I guess the important question is: were you tightening the bolts to stop a leak through the cover? You may need to order a new gasket.

Huh you think they might have something similar at Home Depot/Lowes/AIH possibly? Really don't want to wait on shipping.
Btw was that the correct size of bolt for a F20C?

Thanks for the input

Yup, looks like part number 9, on this diagram. The site is in FAQ-DIY part of this Board, somewhere or other.

It's worth a trip to the Honda Motorcycle Parts dealer. I've seen similar bolts on the Honda bikes that I've worked on. If no Honda dealer. Try Home Depot.

I thought winter in Alaska came in August? If it makes you feel any better lots of people snap those bolts. 8lbs is not much. How you going to remove it with dental tools is beyond me. Most people remove the cover. Often times there will be just enough of the broken bolt showing that you can get a pair of needle nose vise grips on them. If not it is easy out time. If I were to use a easy out(never had to in this location) I would put the valve cover back on again to help keep the drillings from getting in the head. That should be your number one focus here, keeping the head clean.

I think there would be a better chance of a Honda dealership being around than a Honda Motorcycle dealership. How many bikes you think they sell in Alaska with a two week riding session, LOL?

I snapped one off yesterday using a cheap torque wrench. In the end I found it was loose enough to turn out using finger pressure, you could even use a small flathead screwdriver too thankfully didn't have to go as far as using easy-outs which was a bonus.

Oil the threads and take the car for a drive. Should loosen itself

So good news, we managed to get the broken bolt out. Only took minute at the most. I ended up having to call the Honda Dealership here and they actually had 2 in stock and ended up buying both of them and order a bag of 20 on Amazon lol.

As far as winter goes, it starts more toward the end of September/October nowadays. Some times even as late as November. When I was a kid, i want to say it started around August but that was 20 years ago and so I can't remember all too well lol.
