Default Is this sound normal?

I've only had my car for a few weeks and haven't VTEC'ed it too much, but the last few times that I did, I noticed that there's a hissing noise when I get into VTEC....

Is this normal? Does it happen to anyone else? It would give me great peace of mind if someone knew what this was.

Thanks in advance.

Well, first, is it a new car? If no, does it have an aftermarket airbox/CAI? Your post shows a 00 model which I assume to be used if you've only have it a few weeks.

The hissing is the air intake. I personally didn't notice it with the stock air intake and filter box but it is certainly noticable with my Injen CAI, even at idle. Your little engine is consuming vast quantities of air esp. at high RPMs.

(so as not to whore-up this thread) if you don't hear the noise during normal driving, but only when your motor crosses over into VTEC, then it has to be intake related. the only thing that changes is the cams shift over to the more agressive profiles and the motor sucks in more air. well, also the corners of your mouth start approaching your ears. so either you're sucking in air between your grinning teeth, or it's your intake is hissing.

you might just check the air filter to make sure it's clean and seated properly.

LOL tritium_pie! That's as good a reason as I've ever heard! But on a serious note, thanks for the advice, I'll go check and see if the air filter is clean.

cthree - Yes, it's a used S2K and has a stock intake. I didn't think a stock intake made that kind of hissing, but of course I've never owned a car like an S2K before. Has anyone else with a stock intake heard this sound?
