Here is the DIY link for replacing dashboard lights, including the start button. I know I have a few bulbs burned out on my dashboard and I thought my start button was burned out too.

Its supposed to light up. Mine didn't when I first bought the car. Then randomly about 6 months ago it turned itself on. Then a month ago it went out again

so you have a MY2001 and seen the button illuminated ?, if that is the case then perhaps AP1's are supposed to light up.

I'm going to do the dashboard light replacement DIY very soon , I'll check the start button while I'm at it and make sure that the bulb is replaced if it is designed to have one.

The DIY for bulb replacements doesn't differentiate between AP1 and AP2 on the start button, so I assumed that they all light up, which may be the case.

Its the same part number on AP1 and AP2 so they should all light up.

that should settle the matter then. I think the start button is susceptible to early burn out seeing as how many people have a dark button. Perhaps a good candidate for an LED wedge bulb, you don't want to be changing this bulb too many times given the amount of work involved.

Mine never lit up. When I got a dash light kit, i checked the start button and there wasn't even a bulb in there. However, even after I installed a bulb I couldn't get it to light up...weird.

most of the small bulbs are polarity sensitive, if they don't light up when you install them , you should remove them and reinstall them in a different direction and they should light up. That has happened to a few people. It's weird that there wasn't a bulb in the button.
