OK...maybe not a "screech", but a metal on metal, tooth grinding type of sound with the timing, duration and frequency that everyone seems to be describing. So what do you think it is, another defective tensioner, the starter or something else?

Sounds like the tensioner. I'm on my 4th, so anything is possible I guess.

There's one board member in contact with Honda about this....hopefully he'll make some headway.

Any knowledge of them being defective right out of the box? Thanks for the info.

I have not seen one as of yet. But I have seen an AP2 with 8k miles with a bad tensioner.

If you want to duplicate the sound that mine makes, just poke the start button with the engine running.

Hey Billman250,

I think I am having this same issue, like cards in a bicycle tire at startup, (not too loud though) then clears up until back at idle after running for a while.

Timing chain tensioner?

Do you have any updates on your modded tensioner? I would be interested to know if you have any ready for sale.

This seems to be a weak spot in our engines. Maybe Honda will follow your lead and beef up the tensioners.

Thanks in advance. Look forward to hearing from you.

Ron
