Starting the Engine from the Cold
Does anyone have problems starting the car after a cold morning. I live in the east coast which the temp will drop downt to 10 degrees at night.
I step on the clutch, press the start button, without gassing, the engine will start and then stall...this usaully happens when it really cold out. Any advise will help
Thanks,
Mike

There have been a couple of threads on this already. Try searching for "testut" (user name). He had this problem a while ago, so did I but the problems are now gone. I'd search but I'm on my way out of the house. Basically, let the thing die and eventually it'll learn and compensate. Also, it would help if you held the start button for a second or two longer to get it past that stalling phase. There are other things that you can check too and these are discussed in those other threads. If you haven't any luck with finding them, I'll give it a go when I get back.

That would be THIS thread.
I've noted this problem but only when the weather warms significantly and the ECU apparently modifies itself for that situation. When the weather suddenly chills off, the first start attempt stalls. I LET it stall. The second and subsequent starts are fine since the ECU sees the stall and modifies its start sequence. Be sure to let it stall.
Others have reported that cold starts still fail which would seem to point to other causes (dirty air filter, etc.)...

I have a friend who has the exact same problem with his Mercedes here in Texas. After thoroughly frustrating the techs at his dealer, they called Mercedes' Tech Line and was told to try burning regular (not super) gas. It worked - appaently it has something to do with the winter gas blends.
I would be a little worried about doing that in an engine with an 11:1 compression ratio though...
