Bump, I'm having an issue with steering too. I just took the car on a canyon run and the steering went super SOFT. Let the car sit for a bit then got back on the road and the steering stiffened up a bit...after another 10 mins of driving the steering went back to normal.

I did search after search here but came up with nothing...

I'm having the same issue described here too. Anyone have any idea how to fix or diagnose this?

We fixed it by swapping the rack for a used rack.

Any idea what was wrong with the old rack?

Nope, no clue.

Does it really matter? It was cheaper to replace it with a used rack, than it was to replace any of the parts.

Yes it matters. If there's one part that could be swapped without dropping the whole rack I'd like to know. Plus, who's to say it won't happen again? I'd like to know the root cause of something before I start just swapping parts.

There is nothing serviceable in the rack as far as I know. it was our assumption that the motor was failing. Rack swapped, 1 year later the issue has not returned. So it is in the RACK. We swapped out known good EPS controllers and that did not fix it.

Thanks stratocaster for the response. I have been talking with my local honda speed shop and they were thinking that it was something wrong with the rack also. It looks like this is the only solution to the problem then.

Now the question is where to get the used rack from?
