Steering Wheel Violent Shake
Twice now, with early morning start ups (still above 70 F) while slowly, very slowly backing up out of my garage and slightly turning the steering wheel, I've felt a resistance, then the steering wheel shakes violently for a short while.
What could be causing this and did I do something wrong or is there something I need to fix before it gets worse. The car is not a DD.
it is a 2001 with 91,000 miles.
Thanks,

I started experiencing the same issue with my S starting about a year ago. The problem occurs in the same situation as you, but more recently started to occur when I was backing into the garage after driving home (car fully warmed up). Another thing I started to notice is that the EPS (electric power steering) would be inactive for the first few minutes (~2-3) of my drive on some days.
The first thing I have done to address this problem is to check the torque sensor plug for debris and clean the contacts. This did not have any effect. The second thing I did was to follow the EPS relearn procedure and the problem seems to have gone away for now. If it comes back, I will likely just replace the steering torque sensor.
Here are a few informative threads that I read through.

I have recently experienced this issue while driving.
My steering felt a bit on and off that night, like the power steering was working intermittently. The steering wheel turned itself to the left and held that position while I was on a straight road. I tried to turn the wheel to the right but it was impossible for me to turn, as if it was locked almost or just extremely difficult to turn. The car exited the roadway and hit a handful of wooden posts in the ground and launched into the air causing the rear end to spin around and hit a tree. I walked away beat up but alive.
There are other S2k owners who have had similar experiences. We need to make Honda do something about this before more people get injured or killed. Anyone else have a similar experience or felt like the wheel had a mind of its own?
