Test Pipes
I was just at a shop, and I'm debating between a high-flow cat and a test pipe. I know test pipes are illegal, but they are so dang sweet... I always thought they were around 10+hp gain, but the guy said 15+. Is he right, or just trying to sell the product?
Q1: What power can one expect with the basic SS test pipe?
I know they are illegal, and if you get stopped and smog tested, you are scrued. But what is the penalty? I'm sure it varies by state, but what is a common punishment/consequence?
Q2: What happens when you get busted on the street?
Q3: What are the odds of getting a random smog test?
I am not going to weld it, just bolt it... So when emission time comes, I will take it off and replace it with the catalytic converter again...
Opinions? Comments? Experiences? TIA...

My car felt quite noticeably better when I installed my testpipe. It is my only mod and everything else on the car is stock. Feels like I got at least 10hp from it....as to how much I actually got, I am not sure.
