The Torsen differential in the S2000 works on the same principle? Worm gear and worm wheel? And spur gears? Wonder what the advantages of type B over Type A?

Type A:

Outline

  • The torque distribution ratio used for the rear differential and so on of the rear-drive sports vehicles is high with this model.
  • The high-speed cornering and bad-terrain driving limit performance is improved to achieve generous high-dimensional drivability.
Type B:

Outline

  • Immediate torque distribution suitable for the terrain not available with open differentials is possible.
  • While the advantage of the original response of Torsen is enjoyed, this multi-purpose model supports various applications with wide adaptability ranging from the front differential to the rear differential.

Not really. In Type B there are no spur gears and worm gears are turned 90 degrees. Now they are called helical gears. In type B force what equalizes rotating difference between wheels is bigger.

This picture is not from S2000 diff, but it's pretty similar type B:

If I have understood correctly type A relies on friction between worm gear and worm wheel to equal the rotating difference between wheels.
In type B friction between gears is smaller, but friction between helical gears and gear case is the key factor.

I see worm and helical gears interacting. I believe you have to have worm gears. As they are the only type which can apply force in one direction, but not the other. Gonna need to wrap my head around the Type B, after the turkey wears off.

Watching nice videos are one thing, but playing with the real deal is another. Your head will not hurt as much and you "get it" much faster.

Your head will not hurt as much and you MAYBE "get it" much faster. My model really didn't help me yet.
