Default Transmission issue

I have read about 30 posts about various kinds of noises coming from the transmission and/or diff. I even responded to one. I would like to go into more detail here to see if anyone has the same experience.

It is not audible until around 40mph. The noise is very noticeable around 55-60 in 6th gear. It changes pitch going from a lower pitch to higher pitch about 1 time per second. It seems to be coming from the under the shifter, but that could just be where my ear places the sound.

I don't believe it is the gear shift vibration problem, but I have only seem one thread that even sounded somewhat like my problem and it ended up being galled bearings. Anyone else have a problem like this?
What were your symptons?
What was the resolution?
Thanks.

**edit:: I took it for a drive and drove at varying speeds. It is directly speed related. It isn't related to a gear or being in neutral. It also doesn't seem affected by being off or on throttle. It is just easier to hear in neutral off throttle cuz the engine is much quieter.

I run amsoil synthetic diff fluid in the rear (20k since change) and MT-90 in the transmission (15k since last change).

That is a sign of a bad bearing. Which one is the question.

Can you give me some idea how many bearings are in the transmission and the cost of replacing them? If not I guess the honda dealership can!
Thanks.

Update: If anyone is interested. I have an extended warranty through fidelity. After I authorized the teardown of the transmission they sent and adjuster over to look at it. The parts costs alone are around $1850 so they are just going to replace the transmission with a used (21,000 miles) MY2001 tranny. The service manager handling my case said if the transmission is defective in anyway to bring it back and they will get them to replace it with a different one or fix the problem with it. The warranty I have now will cover my new/used transmission until the 6yr/72k miles is up. I am also going to have them replace my clutch as it is very worn and my labor on the clutch will only be $85 since it is already opened up.

So what are your opinions on how I did? The extended warranty was $1600, I got it with the car when I bought it new. I didn't know much about the S2000, since it was very new at the time so it seemed like a good idea. They are taking some time in getting everything worked out, it has been almost a week already and the used transmission won't show up for 3 more days, but other then that I'm pretty satisified.

One thing I have learned is Honda is smoking crack on their parts pricing for this car. The list price on a new OEM transmission is $5000!!! :insane: That is f-ing recockulous!! I couldn't believe it.

So far John Eagle Honda in Houston as been great to work with and I appreciate the recommendation from Stratocaster.

*edit: They said my synchros on 1 and 2 were totally wasted!! I never noticed. I always rev match when down shifting! synchros....we don't need no freakin synchros!

I hope this is what's truly wrong and it fixes the problem, however, this doesn't jive with this information:

You are right. The synchros were not the only problem at all. The service manager just saw those parts and said they were pretty wasted. Other parts including some bearings were bad. I didn't ask for all the details since they are putting in a new/used transmission.
