This is going to be messy guys. Peace of mind, get a clean pan and loose the oil drain plug. Let all of the oil drains out and uncrew the oil filter to check for damage. You can reuse the motor oil. The alternative will cause massive of oils coming out all over, very messy to clean up. I thought dentistry is messy, but this is worse.
i thought the way the the filter is positioned that the oil thats coming out is the oil thats already in the filter so it wouldn't be THAT messy? am i wrong?

Thumbs down

Don't do it!! Had the same thing happen to me which resulted in a small engine fire. The oil went everywhere. Some landed on the header under the heat plate, unfortunately i didn't see that. About 5 minutes after driving on the freeway I noticed smoke, pulled over popped the hood and wah-la a small fire on the headers.

Anyways, just go buy some new oil. Drain it, then take of the oil filter. And fill her back up.

Don't take the oil filter off with oil in the car!! Oil goes everywhere. Everywhere on the ground and everywhere in your engine compartment. !!
