Valve retainer failer

Default Valve retainer failer

I seen a couple S2K's that had retainer failure but only intake side. Does anyone else see this on intake side only? What failures have you seen? Any exhaust side?

I have a spare head and want to rebuild it and since retainers are so costly I was thinking just putting them on intake side. So when I buy a set of titanium retainers I could use them on both my spare head and motor I'm running now.

My question was did anyone else see this and if they seen any other retainers going bad like exhaust side. My concern is if I buy a set of retainers that I could use only the intake side on my motor thats in the car and the spare head I have also. Since it is only the intake side failing I could save money on the head I'm building now. Just call me cheap.

I'm a Honda tech and we don't see many S2K's with problems but the ones that have had problems this was one of the problems. I personally have been inside this motor alot since I have built my motor and have a couple that I've torn apart and parted out.

I think this motor is really close to the K series motor and have built 2 hybrids One was a 03Si JDM R pistons and Type S head fully ported(by myself) and put down 230 whp with Hondata and 440RC injectors .But he traded it in for and EVO dumb ass. The other was a RSX base model With a type S head, this guy did have money for Hondata or injectors so it was very sluggish of the line, we have plane on doing the motor over to a K24 block w/ wiesco piston running 12:1 compression with the type S head and he says he has the money for Hondata and injectors this time. I have not be lucky enought to build a bigger S2K motor but looking forward to someone in my area blowing theres and me getting the chance to build it. Or it could be me blowing mine up. But since I am in a stock class in Autocross I don't plan on building it better than stock specs.
