This sound seems to be notorious for honda motors... especially when they get over 100k. My prelude made that noise and nothing I ever did got rid of the ticking. My motor always ran right it just ticked. maybe yours is the same

So I drove my S down to the local shop and let the head mechanic take a listen...after telling him iv already done a valve adjustment he seemms to think the sound could be coning from a bad rocker arm...either bent or cracked or loose in some way. Ill be taking the valve cover back off sunday and poking around again...just wanted to update the thread.

It burns a little in vtec just like any other AP1 but i keep an eye non it by checking the level every week and never let it get more than halfway down the H-L mark.

I haven't been able to work on it lately with my new job taking up a lot of time...hoping to at least open the valve cover back up and start probing around today.

i'll post another video if i find anything odd

hey, since one of the first things any owner should do when encountering a noise from the engine bay is checking the oil; i want clarification on hot/cold checks...i have seen a post say one over the other and vice versa....so which check should we be doing to indicate actual levels? keeping in mind each "x" equates to roughly a qt. of oil.

thanks, just in it for knowledge/better understanding.

You should always check your oil when the car is cool or has sat for at least 15 minutes after driving so the oil has time to return to the oil pan for an acurate reading. Also oil expands when hot so it will cause a slightly higher reading when the engine is hot.
