I'm sure a V-AFC will work. It isn't S2k specific and it only needs to connect to the VTEC wire, MAP sensor, Rev signal and a few others. Not sure if the 04 ECU pin out is the same as previous models but I'd be surprised if it had changed.

I've often wondered how (exactly) does the VAFC change the VTEC engagement point?

I can see how it would be easy to activate the VTEC solenoid at a different rpm (I've done that myslef, just experimenting), but what does it do to adjust the fuel? Does it change the MAP voltage to indicate higher manifold pressure so the ECM injects more fuel? Or does it modify the IAT or other inputs? If it messes with the MAP, how does it compensate on FI engines where the MAP voltage is already higher than the maximum the ECM will tolerate?

Anybody know for sure?

I'm not absolutely sure but I believe it uses the compensation setting on the MAP signal when you have changed VTEC engagement. You are correct that once the MAP signal is clamped there's not much it can do and that's why I don't recommend the VAFC for FI.

The way some people get around this is to increase the fuel pressure (easy with Comptech) and then use the VAFC to pull fuel. That way you are always working with lower MAP signals and the chance of hitting the clamp level at VTEC are lower.

Thanks, that makes sense. I didn't think altering the IAT signal would account for enough fuel increase for VTEC operation, but maybe I'll check that and see.

When I get time (not likely) maybe I'll capture some injector duration data and see how much IAT and VTEC/no VTEC affect it.
