Lane,

I think it has to do with elevation. Mine kicks in at around 6400RPM. Maybe the next meet we should trade and see if there really is a difference.

It won't. VTEC is controlled from the ECU and uses oil pressure to shift to the high cam lobes. Unless there is a large drop in pressure the oil will not change the engagement point or effectiveness of VTEC operation. All the claims to that effect are probably confusing some other symptom.

Well, finally enough warm (ha!) weather to melt most streets and I was able to get out and test VTEC.

I did some test runs, and found that in 2nd gear WOT, it engages apx. 6600rpm, a bit higher in 3rd (no where around here to go fast enough for 4th gear test I usually am about 75% throttle max, which gets me apx. 7000rpm engagements.

Still not sure about powerlevel; WOT I can feel engagement, but I had to really play around to do so. Kwando, next time we get together I'd definately like to trade for a bit and see if there is any difference. Might also be able to tell about the 2nd gear "grind" (which seems to be getting louder, but could be just my noticing it more).

~approx 6500 for me in 1st through 5th... harder to notice in 5th... other noises abound (and checking for rollers)

Mine's at 6,500RPMs as well ... I thought that should be a standard engagement point throughout all production models but I suppose I'm wrong.
