Default VTEC Inconsistency

Hey guys,

I've got a question regarding your experience with your S2k's VTEC engagement. I own an 02 Ap1, I don't baby her, she's my daily driver, but I do take care of her. Throughout my ownership I've always felt like the kick and change in exhaust note when VTEC engages varies day to day. Sometimes it will be loud and easily felt and other times more understated without a significant kick or any at all really. Do you guys experience this variance? If so, what do you think are some possible reasons as to why this is? New/old oil? VTEC solenoid issues? Gear you're in at engagement? Temperature? FYI I did a compression/leakdown test not too long ago and everything came back fine.

Thanks,
Michael

How much throttal you're giving the car. For instance, accelerating easily onto the high way at 1/3 throttal compared to when your racing and passing into VTEC at 3/4 throttal.

I imagine its throttle input as Gotpepsi is alluding to.

I'd say this as well. I think it may even be possible to pass the rpm engagement point without actually engaging vtec due to low throttle position.
