VTEC Issues
I hate when threads wind up like this. I have seen people like this come and go over the years.
Anybody that would immediately begin to race a motor into VTEC land pulling out of their driveway before the bloody thing is even warmed up, essentially has no credibility.
I try to help someone, and look what happens
Sorry for the rant guys. Sorry Mods, if you feel that this thread should be closed, then by all means...

Although I have never tried this, removing the Vtec selinoid breaks communication to the ecu and it should act up accordingly, this proves nothing.
I take great care of my car, I warm it up properly like I'm supposed to, and perform basic routine maintanance procedures. I have never ever reved past 6k rpms in my S2000, and NOT had VTEC engage. VTEC doesn't make this car a rocket when you go past 6k.
This motor needs substanially more air and fuel to rev from 6k to redline. The higher profile cam lobes allow this to happen. With VTEC not funtioning properly, the motor would STARVE when pushed past 6k all the way to redline, thus run poorly.
So, when peeps say, "my motor runs smoothly all the way to redline, but my VTEC is not engaging"....

Ive got something valuable to bring to this thread!!!!!!
The guy I work with drove his Type R into work right before the first snow. On his way here, no VTEC.... Fell on its face and stumbled at 5500rpm....
You know why........ LMAO!!!
NO OIL!
So..... if VTEC doesnt engage, the car will run like a bag of smashed @ssholes!
But, I digress.... there still could be issues with how hard the car pulls, but i bet it doesnt have anything to do with VTEC, but more about detonation from bad fuel? Engine timing being RETARDED for various reasons.
I hope this helps.... and yeah.... you run outta oil.... YOUR A KNOB!

I appreciate everyone's input. I'm sorry that the discussion got so heated. RACER, to answer your question- my car has 13,000 miles on it.
I always let my car get to normal operating temperature, which is 8 lines for my AP2. I never had issues with the VTEC before.
I understand that there are a number of things that could be wrong with it, not necessarily the VTEC itself. Now, I just hope that I can convince the dealer that there is a problem.
I can almost guarantee that they will check it out and tell me that everything is fine and that Honda has never had a VTEC failure. It's been my experience that my dealer doesn't understand my car very much.
Thanks again,
Jos

I dont understand? Are you saying that the car will rev cleanly to redline without VTEC?

Since this is the basis of this thread, this should be understood and relized so that we can get past this debate crap and figure out the problem. If your significatly short on oil the vtec will poop out as a fail safe, as if the car was reacting to not being up to temp. This I beilive is not the problem being described.
As far as I can tell, we have not been able to deturmine if his Vtec is working or not. Considering the ability to rev as such without vtec engagment tells me we need to investigate further on what he is experiencing, which may be hard to do unless I get in the car myself at this point.
