I don't mean to add more fuel to the fire, but after reading all the responses, this is what I did--

I took my car out to test a theory. From a complete stop I floored the gas, and I felt that pull at 6,000 RPM. What a great feeling.

In the past, I didn't have to drive that agressively in order to feel that surge in power. In any case, this at least proves that VTEC is working, but I have to drive aggresively in order to feel it.

I don't know what this means, but I greatly appreciate all the feedback. I also decided to reset the ECU. So my car is right now sitting in the garage with the battery disconnected.

Thanks again.

Jos

higher effective gear ratio of 4.22
I was under the impression they had 4.10 final drive in the rear end. I have a honda printout for 2004 from Honda, and this is what they state for final.

Is this right? 4.10s stock??

Yes this is right, both Ap1 and AP2 have a rear end gearing of 4.10 however the Ap2 has an effective gear ratio of 4.22 when you do the breakdown, because of the transmission gearing differences over the Ap1, make sense? this is what I was referring to. This ads to the snap and torquier feeling of the Ap2 in all rpm's. Something Honda decided to do to add to the lack of tq feeling people were complaining about. Its not all engine differences.

This thread has been a great reading for me for the past hour. Also i must say i learned a great amount of new information about Vtec. As for the OP, good luck with your problem as it seems you only figured out a temporary fix since you have to drive it AGRESSIVELY, to engage into Vtec or get that feeling that you wanted. I like how RACER has the time to quote every single thing in this thread....if you know what im talking about.

Just wanted to give you all an update.

I took my car to the local dealer and as expected they found nothing wrong with my car. They tested it on their machine and the VTEC was working as it should, but that was as far as they were willing to look.

I then took it to a dealer at a bigger city 70 miles away, and they tested it. They told me that the VTEC was working fine, but there was a problem with the fuel injectors. They replaced the injectors and now my cars is as good as new. I feel the pull again. I guess it wasn't just my imagination, or me just being used to my car. There really was something wrong with it.

I APPRECIATE EVERYONE'S INPUT.

I didnt read every page but just make sure your car has at least 3 bars of temp for vtec to engage properly, also, make sure your oil level is proper. Pretty basic,

Then if you have a intake you can INDEED hear it work, with a oem filter its much harder but if you have any concern, pop your hood, take the top off your oem filter cover and go for a run then, sure hear vtec alot louder as thaht oem cover really just dulls the noise.

enjoy
