I think the point that guy with the prelude was trying to point out it that if the motor can go into VTEC range and not engage VTEC, but still run smothly, even if its because the motor is not warm enough, then it is not an impossiblilty that this guy is experencing no VTEC engament without a stumble above 6k or a CEL. I know i can feel VTEC, and in my old Civic SI iv gone to redline without VTEC engaging and you could defintly tell, and it didnt run bad at all.

Did you do ANYTHING to you car before this started happening? Change the oil maybe? I know shitty oil filter can cause VTEC to not engage.

Well they must all be different, because as one of my above posts outline, the Type R 1.8 litre will NOT rev cleanly above 5500 without VTEC. I cannot say that you would be wrong in that the S2000 will rev cleanly, but I just cant believe that they are all so different.... but it is entirely possible I suppose. I would like to know for sure, on a scientific basis. I have as well, felt my car hit VTEC and pull like a raped ape, where as at another time, same day within 2 hours, not pull the same upon VTEC engagement. I think this needs to be examined a lot further!

PLease correct me if Im wrong, but I understood that VTEC only engages at 6000 rpm and WOT, if you are light on the throttle VTEC doesnt engage, but you can still climb to the redline.

I have tried this before, and you don't feel the "kick" at 6000 just smooth accel. but with WOT you feel a kick at 6000 rpm

See.... the iVTEC is like that, but after reading a press release on the S2000, they say it is throttle sensitive as well. I really didnt think that it was! Again, a lot of things that need to be adressed.

Well he stated that he forgot to hook the VTEC soliniod up. I think it had alot more to do with that.

I would suggest that you add a vtec light. If you go to modifry.com, you will find the instructions for adding a vtec light. The light costs about $2.50 at radio shack and you will need about six feet of wire. I would suggest that you directly connect the wire to the vtec wire and not use the little push clip that is shown.
This is not hard to do. I would suggest that you take out the driver's seat when you make the connection just to make it easier to access the vtec wire. You will be able to know exactly when your vtec engages. I have found that it does not always engage at 6000 rpms. It depends on which gear you are in and other factors.

It should engage regardless of gear. So... what is different btwn the VTEC in the S2000 and the VTEC in the 1.8 litre?

I don't really want to beat up on you to bad here and start a fight but...
You couldn't beat up on me if you tried. As for starting a fight, you have already done that.

i feel like I should say something because I'm not getting a great vibe from you.
The feeling is mutual.

I value my input just like anyone. If I didn't value my input, why would I even bother posting here on s2ki?

but i must say I disagree with alot of your argument,
Everybody is entitled to their opinion. If you disagree with me, I don't have a problem with that. I even respect that, but why the need for a personal attack?

what I am gathering here is that this is your theory and not your experience
I based my opinions and comments on actual facts from members here on the board, as well as my own personal experiences.

my experience shows me something different
You have shown absolutely NOTHING in this thread to show that jbeni96's VTEC is not working properly

you take care of your s like you say, so you have no experience to say what happens in this senario.
I have never had a problem with my car. What's your point?

i'll say to you that being stuck in a rut for 4 years doesnt automaticly give you valid experiences above someone, say like myself
I never said my experiences were above yours. If s2ki is a rut, why are you even here troll. I don't know you, and you don't know me, you come on the site and chastise someone who did nothing to you.

You sound like a very angry person who has some personal issues.

I don't claim to be a master mechanic myself, but obviously you are not either.

I do however know enough through trial and error and common sense as well to be able to depict some bullshit when I hear it
Ok.

I know the difference when someone is stating something strong but is theory driven over sound advice and experience, it helps when you have your own experience not theory to back it up, Know what I'm saying?
Strong theory and sound advice are two completely differen't scenarios. I gave jbeni96 some advice on steps to take to diognose his car. My opinion that jbeni96's VTEC is fine, comes from actual facts as well as experience being involved with Honda's since the early 90's.

Again, what's your point?

Theory is fine if you are being clear that this is what it is and not trying to pass it off as something elese...
Again, I based my opinion on theory, as well as experience. I don't claim to have a wealth of knowledge. I have never insinuated that I have a wealth of knowledge

You have some valid information to give and good points regarding the problem, but you also have some head strong bullshit....
Again, ok

it deosn't make for a good argument or very well recipricated from some of us who know a little more then some others.
Ok Einstein.

Some of us know a little more than others? Yah right

If I am wrong about anything, I would NOT hesitate to admit I was wrong. I am not into fake people, as a matter of fact, I sense a very fake person right now

Go back were you came from troll.

Yes, well into 8000 grand on Ap1. As clean and smooth as it continued to rev gives me no reason to belive you couldn't.

I am confident about this
What leads you to believe that you smoothly went to redline without VTEC? You haven't shown any documentation that verifies this. Are we supposed to just take your word for it?

and will stand by this argument that the pre Vtec offers enough fuel to deliver smooth consistent operation well into 8 grand without stumbling, leading the driver to beilive his Vtec is not working.
The engine WILL cut off past 6k if VTEC does not engage. You accuse me of speaking out of some hypothetical theory, when the fact is, YOUR the one that is totally clueless.

Yea, ok.

so that we can get past this debate crap...
Starting a fight with a member on the board by chastising said member, is NOT HARDLY a debate

If your significatly short on oil the vtec will poop out as a fail safe, as if the car was reacting to not being up to temp.
It will also be limited in revs. No VTEC, no revs.
