Default Vtec solnoid ?

ok a friend of mine has a integra type R. i was over his house one day while he was installing an NSX Vtec solnoid. and damn i couldn't belive the difference it made. the car hit vtec wayy harder, louder, and pulled you a lot more which i was very surprised. he said its because the NSX solnoid allows for a lot more oil to be injected. would this work on and s2000? could we put the larger nsx solnoid in? and would it make any difference

wow... I thought the only function of the solinoid was to lock the roller arms that touched the Bigger lobes. By oil do you mean engine oil?????...

I think you guys need to recalibrate your butt dyno. You have to has 60psi for the VTEC to operate. You have to have this much oil pressure beacause the oil is leaking down past the rocker arm pistons. If the pressure drops, the pistons in the rockers will not be held out to engage the second cam lobe. Increasing oil pressure or volume will have no effect on VTEC operation. The cam lobes determine the valve lift, not oil pressure.

Unless the previous VTEC solenoid was not operating, there is no HP gain from this. Sorry.

and Idont think the sound would be any different as the sound is basically coming from the big lobes right?

The VTEC solenoid can't "make power" or affect the sound the engine makes. All the solenoid does is cause the pins to lock into place which "engage" the high cam lobe. It doesn't change the size/shape/timing of the lobe, so it can't impact the amount of power the car is making (unless, like SlowS2k said, the old solenoid was defunct). Changing the solenoid to an NSX solenoid will give you almost as much additional power as changing the Honda emblems to Acura ones.

I believe the increase in power that you were feeling is due to the placebo effect.
