I think the noob has gotten enough Shite for this one.

Plain and simple, if the VTEC isn't working the check engine light will be on. It's a monitored system by the cars PCM (powertrain control module) . If the car is low on oil, the PCM can set a DTC that indicates a VTEC system failure and you won't be getting full redline from the engine, until the code is cleared.

The engine can be low on oil and never turn the oil warning light on. Lesson being check the oil often.
