ok, short and sweet. i just did a compression test warm with closed throttle on my 2001 and the results came out as follows: 220, 235, 240, 240. within 10% or not, this freaked me out. i then redid the test open throttle and the numbers all hovered around 240. my question is why the discrepancy in the results yielded from cylinder 1?

 

It's hard to say, besides you were doing the first test wrong. Either way the numbers are good. 10% of 220 is 22psi so you are ok.

throttle open
all plugs removed
warm engine, run within the last 1/2 hour
injectors disconnected

 

ok, that's how i did the second test except i removed the fuel pump fuse instead of dcing the injectors. still seems weird though that the first test showed almost a 10% drop on only one cylinder.

 

Could be worn rings, one might have a scratch in the cylinder wall, or a valve that was too tight. I wouldn't freak out about it, but you might want to do a leak down test.
