Windshield Replacement Question
Had mine replaced recently. For some reason the mounting spot for the rearview mirror is about a quarter inch closer to the headliner on all aftermarket replacement windshields. This makes in harder to grip to adjust, and cuts down on view out the rear, which is crappy as it is anyway.
The seals on many of our s2k's flip out, there was a TSB about it actually. Also try to get new seals if possible. Show the TSB to the ins company so they believe you need new ones.
You can try to get the OEM glass, but remember, it's gonna be a several week wait till it gets here from Japan. And a $450, your insurance company will balk. Even the dealers when replacing glass don't usually use it. Interesetingly, it's available in green and blue. Get the green. Less glare.
As far as aftermarket glass goes, there are generally 3 classes, cheap chinese (less than $150 for the glass), cheap Mexican (less than $200) and better Mexican/American (less than $250). My glass guy, who's been in business for 40 years, says these days you can't go by brand name anymore, cause their is to much outsourcing going on to be sure. So his advice was, alwas replace the seals and get the best glass you can afford.
