Yet another Vtec Problem
Today I was driving around town and this Mazdaspeed 6 comes up behind me really fast, so I rev-match down shift into Vtec to go after him but my Vtec stutters and won't work and a CEL comes on. So I reset the ECU and go for a run. Vtec works for 1st and 2nd,then I slow down and drop it into Vtec again and it stutters and doesn't work. The car is properly heated. I think the problem is that I may have too much oil. Because my oil light flickered and I checked my oil level and it is at or maybe even a little but above the H. So my question is what do you guys think I should do?
hmmm....my guess would be the oil pump, maybe its shot, or cant make much pressure anymore. considering your oil light flickered, i really think it only comes on when oil pressure is low. you said you had the oil just over the H mark, thats actually okay, it wouldnt cause something like this. good luck!!!
Oil light on = Low oil pressure.
If the crankcase is full of oil and the light came on, chances are the engine has some pretty serious wear. If the oil pump was broken you'd have no oil pressure all the time.

I don't think wear is the problem being that the car has only 60,000mi on it. It may be a spark plug problem, being that I don't know when the last time they where changed was. I just did a MAP whack and took it on a quick run and that seemed to work but I don't think that will stay like that. I am going to change the spark plugs, and get the code read ASAP.
Update: I definitely think its an oil problem. The engine sounds really rough. I think the oil pump is starting to kick the bucket. Im going to put some new oil in it and drive it to the dealership. If you have any other ideas I would be glad to hear them.
Your car threw a CEL, you've been thinking its an oil problem, the engine runs rough, and you're still driving it to the dealership?
I wouldn't touch the car with a 10 foot pole without getting the code read, especially if the engine is running rough. You might be damaging your goods with every single rotation. Stop driving it, and get it towed if possible if its as serious as you lead us to believe.
