Lousy experience. I've been lucky so far with the ATM at our bank. The ATM makes our life easier, and we do the same as you, show up once a week for our "allowance."

We did have a lost check once, but that's a lot easier to trace/replace than cash.

Frankly I don't think you needed to do any more than what you did originally. You reported it immediately and they have a record that shows that. From that record they can confirm who told you there were prior problems with the machine. That plus being a long time customer should entitle you to good customer service and your $80. Personally, I would change banks and let them know why.

The $80 "Good Will" credit showed up in our account last night so our money is back where it should be...So except for my ruffled feathers all is once again right with my corner of the world.

I thought of changing banks is tempting and in fact the letter to them explaining why we

I never do all my banking with just one bank, so the switch for me would be pretty painless.

This should have been easily verified by Wachovia. An audit of the ATM would have showed that it had $80.00 in paper money than it should have based on the transactions.

Although I have several accounts at Wachovia, I am not a big fan. I've had incidents with them as well, though not over an ATM. Unfortunately, the days of the "Mom and Pop" local/regional banks are just about over, and the big banks get their economy of scale by reducing customer service to minimum acceptable.

I actually had a guy at Wachovia brokerage tell me to leave him alone, because my trading account was not "big enough" for him to worry about. Wonderful Bank Now, I trade my own account, for far less comission and Wachovia has a few less $$ in deposits.
