I hate raccoons. Squirrels too.... Oh yeah, and woodpeckers...
I love raccoons, squirrels and woodpeckers. I was thrilled yesterday to see two small woodpeckers running up and down a tree while a squirrel was having a ball eating hickory nuts on my patio. All these critters provide a service of some sort to the planet.

I think there is nothing more funny than listening to a woodpecker going nuts on a tree. It is very comical to me to hear that sound, it almost sounds fake or what you might hear in a cartoon. I love watching and listening.
I love wildlife too but raccoons and squirrels are a pain for eating stuff, squirrels try to get in your house and tear it up in the process. It's just a short hop from all the trees to the siding and trim on the house for the damn woodpeckers. . Mice don't last long if they get into the house with the cats and I try to just ignore the moles.
I don't see the foxes, rabbits, deer, skunks, ducks, coyotes, etc. tearing up my stuff much other than dens and borrows. The ducks just waddle around looking for bugs and then go back to one of the neighbors ponds.
Living in the woods can be great but it can also be a challenge and add extra work.
No electrical substations on the property, though. Just the transformer for the house.
One of our dogs, a Sealyham terrier, started to bark at that time. It never barks at night until early morning to go outside. We slept through it. The epicenter, Ferndale, is a place I have driven through many times on the way to "California's Lost Coast". I will attach some pictures of why it is called that.
The area of the quake is right at a junction of fracture zones. More to come undoubtedly. You can see how many earthquakes occur all the time.
Some bridges have cracks, PG&E is reporting a lot of damage. 70,000 customers without power but so many people there have backup power.
In the screenshot of Google Maps, you can see the epicenter of Ferndale below Eureka. You can see how the highway veers eastward and does not follow the coast. It is difficult to make out the 2 lane road that hugs the coast. Other roads are not paved and go down to a single lane. You feel like you are going back in time. This is the lost coast. Small local roads not well travelled but spectacular. Looking out at the ocean on the Google Map you can see the underwater Mendocino fracture zone clearly.
