This is an opportunity by Hyundai to earn customer loyalty by doing the right thing or screwing the customer but maintaining your profit margin.
Legends are made of less meaty stuff.

He told me that if this had happened 6 months later, it would have been a different story.

What would they do after 6 months?

Hyundai is doing exactly what it should be doing. You bought a car in good faith, and you are entitled to have a perfect car. No ifs, ands or buts. Honda stood behind their product with me. With close to 80,000 miles on my Si Honda paid the lions share of the transmission rebuild. This in spite of the fact that the Si was long past warranty.
The Korean and Japanese manufacturers learned from the mistakes and abuses of the American manufacturers. Back in 1972, long before the lemon laws, my folks bought a brand new Chevy Vega. In the first year and 15,000 miles the car had to be towed into the dealership 13 times. General Motors refused to take responsibility for it, instead blaming driver error. Between my mother and father, my sister and myself, we had about 75 years of driving experience but General Motors insisted it was our fault. Long story short, my folks got tired of pouring money into the car and got rid of it after the engine warped. Eventually, General Motors admitted that the car was a problem, but too late to do us any good. After that, since 1972, neither My sister or I have ever considered buying an American car. My point is that Hyundai, Honda and the other Korean and Japanese manufacturers have learned the value of customer satisfaction. And have seen the cost of customer dissatisfaction. General Motors used to have in the excess of 56 percent of the auto market. Now they have significantly less.
Good luck with the new one. I bet it feels good to do business with a legitimate company.

So Mike. Think you will check the oil in this one or just drive it till it drops again?
I think if the dealer would check your many posts and talk to your friends, they would have found out the real story!
