Dean,

I put John McCain in the same category with Kerry--say anything to be popular and get elected. His election "reforms" resulted in the (by far) the most money ever spent on a presidential campaign. Give him 40 acres in the Arizona desert and make him King, I say.

Peter Sellers as the Gardener was brilliant! Do you think Bush can walk on water too? I think many on the opposite side of the bench feel the same way (he's a dullard), and yet the guy continues to confound. He's the only president ever with an MBA. Sure, he can't speak French, but maybe he's a little smart?

I put all politicians in this category. They all spin their position depending on the audience. My theory is there aren't more women politicians because it takes too long to make up two (possibly more) faces!

I heard that the average American owned 1.7 guns. Can that be true?

That seems impossible, Cordy.

Dean, I want to hear the answer to "during vertebrate gastrulation, what germ layer forms the notochord.....". I'm writing a romance novel in my spare time, and I think I can use that if I add a few four letter words.

Chazmo,

You're right--did a quick search and it looks like it's 1.7 firearms per family, or something like 200 million guns out there in the gp.

Sometimes I think Bush thinks that he can walk on water. Afterall, his administration has never made a mistake.
Over the course of my lifetime I've known a lot of people with degrees, and a number of them were incompetent or of average intelligence. The man can barely put together an articulate sentence, and contrary to what he says about his inability to speak articulately, being articulate is a sign of intelligence. His much touted SAT scores are no concrete evidence of his abilities either. Mine were higher as I seem to recall, but only a complete fool would believe that I'm fit for public office.
Judging from what I've observed, he also lacks the ability to see the bigger picture or follow thoughts to their logical conclusions. I saw a clip of him addressing a "town hall meeting" the other night in which he was addressing the issue of Social Security. He informed (the well screened pre selected) attendees that Social Security was biased against African American males because African American males "die sooner than other people, so we need to fix Social Security". There was absolutely no mention of the societal/cultural reasons why African American males tend to die earlier, but apparently those problems can be fixed by privatizing Social Security. I swear I heard Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King rolling over in their graves.
I don't think that Bush's popularity in this country is due to any demonstrations of intelligence on his part, but rather his overly simplistic, good ol' boy, "get 'er done" approach to problems. People tend to like simplicity over complexity and at least the appearance that something is being accomplished. Bush's "bull in a china shop" approach provides all of that and more, but I suspect that we'll be dealing with the repercussions on numerous levels for many years to come.

That I can believe. I daresay that most folks who own a gun own more than one. My friends had multiple pistols and rifles for target shooting.

I have no problem with that. I have a problem with people thinking that 200 million guns means that the US is a gun-toting population.
