Great pics of the hummers and the baby owl. He's pretty big!

I've never been able to get a pic of the hummers, but I'll have to give it a try when they show up here, which won't be for at least another month.

I was thinking that the hummers must have moved on. And then, I noticed a feeding frenzy after sunset. My two back deck feeders had at least 10 at once. So, of course, I had to take some more pictures. One is really special.

^This one really surprised me. A back-flip?

^Here's the same one, less cropped.

^Six little piggies.

They're baaacck!

I noticed some fighting over feeders for the first time this year during a mild rain shower this afternoon. I dumped and refilled the feeders (one at a time) and now there are birds everywhere.

No pics as it's too dark now. Maybe tomorrow. Although I can't touch Patty's pics. Neither the camera nor the photographer are up to those standards.

Hope you get some pics!

I only see one at a time, and there's no way I can capture them with my camera.

I have a new camera now that I'd love to try on hummers but I only have one at a time now. Just the green ones are left. The owls seem to be gone too. But I flushed out a quail under the front deck the other day.

We had dinner outside on our deck last evening. The hummers stopped by. We have one ruby throated one that seems to prefer the feeder I have outside my kitchen window. We have another greenish one no red around the throat that seems to prefer the feeder and plants on the other side of the yard.

No pics though. You'll have to take my word on it.

Lainey, the only hummingbird we have here in MA is the Ruby Throated. I just checked and the green one you saw was Ms hummingbird.

This link came through the office e-mail last week.

Al, are you saying the ones without the red throat are females?

I thought we had two kinds of hummingbirds around here.....

According to this link we get more than one, but you may be right, I may be seeing a male then the female of the same type.
