We usually hang a feeder right above where the spot where we are standing at our cottage, but it doesn't get much hummer traffic unless we're there for an extended period.....which does not (unfortunately) happen very often
Those are great pictures, this is like National Geographic.
I think I'll put out some feeders as well. The link says Fl has several varieties. Maybe I'll get lucky. How long have you had yours out? I have heard it can be a long time before you get discovered.

Apparently, having bright flowers around the feeder area helps attract them.....
.....the type of flowers with a tubular blossom....so that they can do this:
They burn up so much energy with their wing speed that each hummer needs to eat a large % of body weight each day......and much worse when feeding babies
It is very important to change the solution at least once a week especially if it is HOT!
Most plants are identified as being attractive to hummers, butterflies, etc. or not so look for that in their description. Also, several feeders not close together is a good idea. We used to have a willow that the hummers would sit in and play hide and seek in. We will definitely have feeders this year.
My skills are nowhere close to Patty's but I wanted to share this pic of our favorite New Zealand bird....feasting on some luxuriant spring flowers back in October/ November This is called a Bellbird....fairly common in woods and fields.

My feeders are used year round. When I go to our place in Kennedy Meadows, I fill one there too and the hummers come within a day, if they are already there going for the sage flowers.

It's all in the camera, Jerry, but thanks. That is a cool looking bird.

.....Susan and I are still talking about going to New Zealand, your pictures have been great motivation......
If you like hiking and great Alpine scenery, it's a great place to visit....2 weeks as the absolute minimum. There are few tourists in their spring (Oct/ Nov) or their fall (April/May)
Our S2000 friend Sue (veternarian) has offered to host other vintage members.....she has a great location about 1 mile from the International Airport in Christchurch
My little piggy hummers emptied my back feeders again. I just made new nectar for them and had to get a couple more photos.
Of course the following photos aren't of hummers but I have a pair of owls in my yard too. The momma has been sitting on the raven nest they took over, for three months. The pops sits in a nearby tree all day. Last night when we were in the jacuzzi, I think I heard a peep of a baby owl. I think we should start seeing them soon, if indeed, there is a baby in there.
^This is the same nest last year, when the raven babies were in it.
