I don't know Lainey, the older I get the prettier those young fellas look.

One of the young bucks that was working on our construction project in Acton is a kid my daughter was in a kindergarten/first grade class with. He was working with a tractor and I jumped in front of my S2000 and put my arms out behind me, like I was protecting it from him, to kid him. But I digress. This guy is now 20 years old and mmm, mmm, mmm, what a fine male specimen he turned out to be! Of course he was darling in first grade too. I guess that makes me a dirty old woman.
The last couple of mornings as I'm in the kitchen getting breakfast a humminbgird is right outside the window at one of the potted plants on the deck. I think it's a "she" and she likes the red salvia and the coleus that are in the pot.
I left my camera on the counter, so if she shows up tomorrow, I'll try to get a pic.
They are just neat creatures.

It seems the hummingbirds eat the same time we do. I finally got a pic! I caught this one while getting ready for dinner. His little wings were moving! I need to move my feeder with the perch next to the window. This is right outside my kitchen window.
Good job Lainey.
I wish I could either photograph or adequately describe what's going on here this evening. The camera and photographer aren't up to it so I guess I'll have to try to describe it.
We had a little shower here around 4 PM. When I got home around 5 the sky was still overcast but the rain had stopped. Apparently the low light conditions have brought on a feeding frenzy the likes of which I've never seen before.
There are about 30 hummers fighting for the feeding positions at our 4 feeders inside the pool fence. As the dominant birds chase away one interloper others hover on the other side of the fence and pounce on the feeder while he's away.
They don't seem real concerned about my presence other than the courtesy of not flying into me when I'm in the way.
This is a real hoot.

Got one more. Look under the word "hummingbird" he's sitting there. They were all over the place today, but didn't stay in one spot long. It was tough getting this pic. Wish Patty were here with her camera.
We had one in our garage yesterday that wa hell bent on flying through the window. He/she was beating itself to death trying to fly through the window. My wife used a soft plastic flyswatter to try to turn it around. It actually perched on top of it, and she was able to carry it out to safety. Of course there was no way to get a camera that quickly for a picture. We were more concerned about it's health.
This guy is definitely the cock of the walk around here. He will allow his mate to feed at this feeder occasionally but doesn't tolerate any other birds at all.
If they won't take no for an answer, he will bump them so hard that the thump is audible from several yards away.
