^ These guys are fighting too. We have some big yellow bird that tries to drink but I don't think it can get it's beak in.
The Orioles rip the yellow plastic flower out.

I was enjoying the beautiful hummer pix (we only see a scout in early April and then 5 move in from August 1st to October 1st), and realized I must not have posted this one I took 2 years ago at the lake.

Me too! That's an incredible picture. Is the nest constructed from the rope or were other materials added?

^ What kind of wood do you use to smoke those little buggers, mesquite or apple?

Is the nest constructed from the rope or were other materials added? I just sat there in a hanging chair nearby drinking coffee early in the morning while she fed. They have 2 babies, 3 at the most. They're a little concerned when the dock gets crowded and noisy but they still come back. The first time I saw one, I moved one of the nests to a tree on the shore so she could nest in peace. She flew around it a few times but kept coming back to the dock, so I brought the nest back and she was happy.
They use the ropes left to hang hammocks as the base for their nests and the nests are built of lichen with anything cottony as a liner. The eggs look like coconut Jelly Belly's

You light their little tails and puff through the beaks, of course.
