Today was supposed to be the day I quit again.

I've had 4 cigarettes......

I feel so guilty and ashamed.

During my frequent past attempts to quit I found that most of the time the urge does indeed pass after a few minutes. My trick is to just say "I'm just going to get through today." Sounds like a different shade of the same strategy.
Keep up the fight. Don't let the Bastard's win. In my opinion the tobacco companies will take your money but not help pay your medical costs associated with their product when you use it as advertised.

Please refer to my previous post about my Brother. Go to a hospital if you have too. Maybe if you see the results of what you are doing to your lungs you will quit.

Beating yourself up? You had four cigs. How many would you have had if you weren't trying to quit?

Tomorrow is a new day, "She drives it." Start again. Falling of the tobacco wagon is not uncommon. Hang in there!

Oh, and there is no shame in using nicotine gum or the patch for a while. My +1 did and it helped tremendously.

Hey, I need to use that Catholic school background to my advantage!

Guilt and shame!

Yesterday I had 6 cigarettes. None so far today. I think I'm going to get through today, then tomorrow.....

I'm on Chantix, Lainey. It helps. Dean posted earlier in the thread that he went an extra week into the Chantix before he quit. It takes a while to build up in your brain. Seems quite a bit better today.

Once the Chantix has blocked the nicotine receptors in your brain, it should become fairly obvious that it's working. Smoking won't provide the same sense of satisfaction, for lack of a better word, that it did previously. Much like drinking alcohol-free beer does for habitual drinkers, but without all the fuss of needing to urinate excessively.

STFU, you friggin elephant. Plus, I didn't inhale! (Not!)

Seriously, I know how hard it must be to quit. I have seen and suffered with some in my family who have quit several times, only to relapse -- but finally to prevail.
