Yesterday I went to the Radio Shack (did NOT ask for my name etc, Carmen ) and bought:
*Motorola T5400FRS on sale for 14.99
*Hands-free Headset #21-1897 for FRS for 21.99
Tested them out and they work fine

If something can be done, I can always find a more expensive (and slightly better) way to do it:
This radio could be modfied to work on FRS and GMRS. It is type accepted for transmitting on three amateur bands, puts out five watts, and is a wide band receiver. It weights about six ounces with an all day battery.
Usual on line price is about $330.
