The Vintage Weather Thread
^ OT...the +1 is thinking of taking his team to VT to run a race there next June. I have to see which one it is.

^ Well, he's not running the whole thing himself. It's like the Bourbon Chase I posted about. A team of 12 runs legs - 3 each. They will take vans from here. The vans follow the runners. I won't be going. No time to really take for anything but running and eating and sleeping.
Maybe you can go and cheer them on along the route by your house.

Ya lo creo!
This storm is going right over the tribal lands of the native Americans that I used to do research with. They have no electronic communication, so they will not necessarily be prepared for the wind and water. In the past when a huge storm would come through, many people got swept down the canyon by a huge wall of water that suddenly appeared from upstream..

I've been in a few hurricanes in the third world. It's not fun. Gilbert in Jamaica swept the windward side of the mountain clean and left the leeward side alone. The worst part was the complete lack of food, medicine and services for several weeks or months. lots of people living in caves.
Fortunately, Hurricanes take a while to get there and you can see and feel them coming. I'll bet even the most primitive tribe knows how to get out of the way within the scope of their environment. It always surprised me how enterprising and how fast the communities rebuilt. It doesn't take much to make nothing out of nothing.
I wish them well, hope everyone is safe. Canes are bad news.

Wonderful fall weather in Houston today. Rain for the rest of the week is the forecast in the Texas Gulf region. Up to 4 inches with possible flooding.
A level 5 - the strongest hurricane ever recorded! Seems it will hit Mexico today at least as a 4. Looks very bad. Then it's going to go right over TX with lots of rain this weekend. Good luck down there!http://www.accuweath...ral-us/53098639
As for us, nothing like that. Maybe a bit of rain on Sun AM for the Marine Corps Marathon, but mostly nice weekend with temps in the 60s.
I was in a hurricane with my aunt and uncle in NC many years ago (Hazel). The road leading into the camp where they had a cabin was flooded, but he figured he could drive through it. Nope...we got stuck and water came into the car. It was dark out and he had to walk quite a way into camp to get someone to tow us out. We kept expecting water moccasins to swim by while we waited by the road. I've also been in hurricanes at their house in NC when we waded in the street and water came into the rec room.

I just remember loads of wind and rain, rain, rain.
