Hertz Donut

I'm guilty of being a "young old fart", but if it helps I did hurtle about in one of British Leyland's, uh, finest vehicles, a 1967 Austin 1100 (ADO16), before being shunted off to a driving school. Apparently my mother thought the car bouncing all over the road and sailing clean through intersections was my fault, not the car's.

But the very first car I drove was a 1982 Ford Fairmont Ghia. I was 14 and my father was too drunk to drive so decided I should have my first lesson, driving 35 miles back from a golf course north of Auckland. I was so nervous I didn't even remember to put on my seat belt.
