But if all you want is to be able to locate your car, that is what the "PANIC" button is for. It would sound the horn so you can find your lost car in a panic. There is no need to sound the horn when you lock/unlock your car.

I completely forgot about the "sight challenged" drivers, sometimes we are so comfortable in our own lives that we forget about the needs of the "challenged" people.
The panic button beeps constantly. I just want to sound one beep.

My '05 S has this little problem on occasion, when it thinks the key is still in the ignition after I've taken it out. (If I pay close attention, I'd hear a beep when I got out of the car but sometimes I'm thinking of something else and don't notice the beep.) When that happens, I hit the lock button and it doesn't lock. I've gotten in the habit of using the horn feature, by hitting lock twice, to make sure it is locked. If it doesn't honk, I know I have to go back and poke the key back in the ignition, to get it to pop out, so it will lock.

I changed the system on my S and when I lock it the car makes a huge fart sound. It's a lot of fun to lock it just when someone walks by. At my age, you get your jollys where you can.

Question

This thread reminded me of a problem with our now-departed Lemon VW Passat. There was a fart in the computer, which led to random alerts of the ALARM at random TIMES.....like 2 am.

Hey, the neighbors really appreciated that several nights in a row At least our S-peeping (new word = ) is able to be controlled....sort of

Thank god for the horn feature. I travel almost every week and it is not unusual for me to fly from out of one terminal and return at another. I can't always find my car in the huge, complicated airport parking lot at Logan International. But the horn feature always solves that problem. Once I was on the wrong floor and the horn feature worked right through the concrete deck.
parking at logan is so screwed up that a klaxon horn wouldn't help sometimes.

I actually had one the shuttle drivers have to call for help becuase he couldn't find my parking section.

Apparently, mu '06 is not set to honk on a second lock button press ... the only time I get that is if I close the door, then open the trunk, and the 20/30 second delay arms the alarm before I finish getting stuff out and clost the trunk ... then it activates the horn. It's not always bad unless I've just come home late in the evening (or morning) and I wake up all the neighbors in the condos ... something tells me they don't apprecite that kind of interruption of their sleep cycle.

I'm with Bill. The horn behavior is a smart engineering compromise from always beeping vs. no audible signal at all.

Besides, Anika likes it when the car tells her "Bye!"
