We sold Corrosion Free at our dealership for 20 years. Undercoated more than a couple thousand new Hondas during that time. It is an excellent product that is similar to Rust Check and Crown Rustproofing. These products creep very well and don't trap moisture. They also are reapplied every year or two. Undercoating can only work well if it is applied by a person that knows how to to do a proper job, not just a "lick and a promise." The undersides of vehicles are the most important areas to undercoat to keep suspension, and gas and brake lines in rust free shape.

How do you and Rick decide when to take the P-car off the road?

Just a little weather watching. If we know it will rarely be used due to weather/temps, it goes under cover. Usually between late October/mid November. We still have the S if we get a nice day. Temps in upper-mid 30's this AM, saw a 360Z on the road top down! Good for him.

Corrosion frequently travels between the boundary layer of the "protectant" and the metal.
The view of the corrosion becomes obstructed by the protectant and goes unaddressed.

This was discovered on older cars and chrome. The chrome was peeling so they responded by making it thicker which made it worse.
The answer was to make it thinner, along with an underplate.

They use a lot of salt here in the winter. Well actually to be correct, they use a lot of mixed salt and mag chloride among other chemicals. Salt does little to nothing below 15F. Brined solution is a lot better though as it stays on the roads and thus less has to be applied (less blow off to go into the ditches, streams, bridges, etc). There are also products that add weight to the deicer that makes them stay on the road longer. One product was Clearlane which originally used a very small amount of molasses in it for this purpose, but they changed the formula later to use something else. The odd things you learn about spending years at a company that provides most of the deicing stuff across the country lol. But in short, they use various things and they use lots of it here in MN. Most of my cars have fared ok though. Our 3rd gen 4 runner certainly has the underside rust at this point but it has spent 20 years in this stuff. Body is mostly rust free short of the chrome bumpers but rust will eventually get it.

I am jealous of the Montana and CO people since salt is a no no there I think. When going to Bozeman to snowboard I drool over 80's era Toyota 4X4's, old first and second gen 4 runners, etc just being driven around as work trucks, everyday drivers, etc and are pretty much pristine. You dont find that in MN

So all this means I just put away the S this time of year and take it out after the first spring rains wash the roads off. They have not put any salt down here yet, but I really just take the S out in good weather with the top down so dont have as much urge to drive it when the weather is cold. It has not been out in weeks and likely will just get cleaned up and put on a battery tender soon. And will get moved to a new home here pretty soon since the house is going on the market! Going south, but only by about 450 miles. So will get shorter and less severe winters at least (but already missing the idea of sitting around watching the snow fly)

Am I the only one that pats mine on the butt when I walk by it in the garage during the winter months?

Same here! Mine gets a nice pat on the dash after every autox run or track session as I am grinning from ear to ear!
