Okay, finally got my Porter and Cable random orbit, 6" hook and loop pads, and finally the sponge pads from Griott's. Here's the results so far:

Using Griott's machine polish #3, takes for ever to remove a scratch an may need a second application. When it dries, it's really hard to take off with a towel.

Using Scrath Out, still takes time to remove a scratch. The finish looks really shiny though, but there has to be a quicker way.

Using 3M paint swirl remover. The most abrasive of the three. However, it really is not that abrasive. Still takes a little while to remove scratches, but not like the previous two products.

More testing will continue tomorrow so I can move the car out to the sun to rate the results.

I'm interested in the fact the buffer didn't do more... very odd. I was going to get a buffer because I was too tired of hand removing light scratches... perhaps try using the "Kit" scratchout on the pad? (Don't do this without first consulting/trying this on something else). Please keep me informed as I'm very interested in using a buffer in the future.

It's still by far, easier to do with the buffer than it is by hand.

Leave the pot scrubbers for really dirty tires. If you want to take out some scratches too, let me know and we can hook up at my place. As long as your car is clean when you get here, we could go over it again with water and a towel then get down to buffing the paint. Just make sure you bring your Z1/Z5 for afterwards.

To really look at your results get a night under some parking lot lights. Trust me that will show any swirl marks or any imperfection even ones not seen in the day time. I saw a X on my hood under lights like that which can not be seen at all during the day time! Its amazing.

Definitely go SLOWLY! You don't want to go to quickly. Try 3M Finesseit II with your polisher.

Rstark,

I've tried Meguiar's Scratch X by hand, and it seems to work ok.

I've tried many products by hand too, but it's much easier with a buffer!
