Which pad is used for what?
I got this Craftsman buffer years ago as a gift and i want to finally try it out. The directions don't say which pad works best for which job. The first one looks like a synthetic wool the next a terry cloth pad and i have no idea what to do with the blue one, it seems a little rough so i don't see why anyone would use it on their paint. So which pad is used for applying polish and sealant?
i personally would not use any of them as they are pad covers to go over the one foam pad probably included..
wool pad - heavy cutting
terry cloth - removing sealant or wax
blue pad cover - haven't a clue, but looks like it will cause marring and scratching from that pic
I think proper pad will employ the use of a hook and loop backing plate. I think the machine and combo you have may cause more damage than good.
pads i use are from sonus and lake country all bought through http://www.properautocare.com

Given those three choices i'd use my hand with a foam applicator.
I know some will disagree but there really isn't any reason to apply an LSP with a machine.
Also, is that Craftsman a 9" or 10" polishing machine?

i cant see the pics... is ita ramdon orbital machine?
if so, this is an easier q if not you need a new machine if you havent machined before.
i lst lostsa times by machine, but thats just me... to each his own as to whether to wax with the machine or do it by hand
as far as pads go, i use my lambs wool under my mfs for the final removal.

wanabe I think it's one of those large 10" machines that all the autoparts stores sell.
Manny, That machine is really only good for applying wax or synthetic. I wouldn't use a polish with it. it doesn't generate enough heat to break down a polish appropriately.
