RFGrouse And Everybody Else
I'm look at a Black S2K to buy and the pain about a black car is keeping it clean. I watch my brother spend hours cleaning his black car when he had one. After he was done he'd go inside to get ready to go out, come back outside cussing grabbing the Meguiar's quick detailer to try to hide some of the swirls again. I need some info and the run down on what to do in order to keep the black s2k with a showroom shine/wet shine.
Info On
I read in here lots of people use the two bucket method which I probably start using. Plus I'm thinking about getting a foamgun. One habbit I need to break is cleaners because I'm one sided product nut when come to those which are Meguiar's product. I love there products, especially the Tech Wax and NXT product. Feel free to write down any other products you use. Should I also pick up a buffer or would that be a little over board.
Technique
Different people use different type of technique when using piant cleaners, polish, and waxing. How I was tought by my dad was the up and down motion, going with the paint of the car. Some people use the swirl technique. Feel free tell what technique you use.
Info On
- Prep work
- paint cleaner, polish and pastes (what brands)
- waxes
- Sealant waxes

Buying a random-orbital buffer such as the porter-cable 7424 with the right pads is an excellent way to remove swirls.
As far as which products, there are so many out there, that sometimes its based on what you are willing to spend. I order my products online.
Microfiber towels are also an excellent investment in the art of detailing.
Some pics of the car and the scratches/swirls you are trying to remove would help us better in recommending products for you to use.

I suggest browsing through this site. It's a friend of mine's detailing site. http://ocdetails.com/html/ocd_university.html

if you are after perfection on a black car, you can get it, but some consider it a pia... i live my black car- and it always looks freshly detailed. it can be done, and it helps to have a beater car when the weather isnt nice!!
my car stays new cause it lives under a car cover. the rear end gets dusted almost daily and the rest of the car is dusted a couple of times a week, when i clean the glass (wheels have their own duster). after dusting, it gets a good detail spray. i hit the interior usually about that time. a quick wipe down does it.
the process starts by a clay/ polish and several layers of synthetic coverd by a carnauba (every couple of years or so). maintenance is the key... and the car cover over a clean car the key to the key.
